I, I, I, I workout... I'm pregnant and I know it!

Good news, my 3 hour glucose test results came back normal.  Thank goodness!  I'm going to go eat a candy bar now.  Hahahahaaa, just kidding.

Many moons ago, when I was a footloose and fancy free single gal living it up in Palm Springs, I would do workout videos (I'm talking VHS here, not even DVD's, that's how long ago it was) in my apartment after work everyday.  My two favorites were Windsor Pilates and Leslie Sandsone Walk Away the Pounds (how hilarious is that?!).  While perusing the Target add on Sunday, I noticed a Leslie Sandsone DVD on sale this week and thought I would pick it up.  After all, it's just walking so it would be a good low impact pregnancy workout and will be great for days when the weather is not cooperating with my walking schedule.  I was right!  I popped it in the DVD player last night after work and did 3 miles.  I loved it!

Look how happy she is!  How could you go wrong?

Last night Warren was checking himself out in the mirror and told me he has green eyes.  He's right; he does.  Then he told me I have blue eyes (right again).  He then had to go check out daddy's eyes and said they were green like his.  I asked him what color eyes he thinks baby sister will have and he said blue.  We shall see.

The other day I was trying to teach Warren how old he is.  I kept telling him he is two and holding up two fingers.  He just looked at me very confused and said, "I'm W Warren".  Poor guy must have thought I was trying to change his name to two.  So... next time you see my kid, please don't ask him how old he is.

Here's a little tid bit for you from Saturday:

Ultrasound

We had a big ultrasound on 01/31/13, it was very exciting!  As some of you know, the first time around we didn't find out the gender before Warren was born (which drove most of you nuts), but it was a great surprise.  This time around, I want to know.  If it's a boy then I'm hanging onto all the boy baby clothes taking up shelf space in the garage.  If it's a girl then it's time to purge!

So.... let the purging begin; this one is a girl!

Catching Up

I haven't been posting in a timely manner lately, so let me catch you up.  Incase you didn't know...

That's right!  Another Burkholder will be joining us in June of 2013!

Santa

We took Warren to see Santa Claus last weekend.  He was all about it... until we actually got in line.  He even practiced telling Santa he wanted a choo choo train for Christmas.  But all was lost.  Warren wanted nothing to do with jolly old St. Nick.

Warren's 2nd Birthday

We survived another year and Warren celebrated in style with 2 sets of grandparents.  We had a morning of opening presents (which Warren was very into this year).  Among some little odds and ends from mom & dad, Warren received a trike from Grandma & Grandpa Score and a sandbox from Grandma & Grandpa Burkholder!  He was very excited.  Then we had a little lunch with birthday cupcakes and took an afternoon safari to Warren's favorite place... the Zoo!

The Rookie

Do you ever feel like a first time mom who doesn't know what the hell she's doing?  Yep, me too.  Two years into motherhood and I still feel that way.  Just this past weekend Warren morphed into a terrible two year old.  He now has tantrums over anything and everything.  His favorite words are "mine" and "no"; and not just an average "no", a loud, drawn out, emphatic "nnnooooohhhh".

On Saturday we ran into Babies R Us and they had one of those little kiddie rides in the front door (You can see where this is going right?) and Warren was gazing up at it with a twinkle in his eye.  He had never been on one before and I was excited to see his reaction, so I put him on it.  Rookie mistake!  When it was time to get off he had a fit; a loud shrieking, kicking and hitting fit.  I somehow didn't see this one coming.  My husband laughed at me.  I forgot that we can no longer do anything fun without him totally flipping out when it's time to go.  I hate this!
This morning he had a nuclear meltdown because I didn't let him take his snack trap into daycare with him.  Oh, and last night when I picked him up from daycare he totally assed-out about getting into his car seat.  I had to wrestle him into the seat and practically pin him down to get him buckled in while he screamed "no, no, NOOOOHHHHH!".  Yep, I'm that mom.  The one you walk by in the parking lot with your silent judgement secretly critiquing and making mental notes of everything I'm doing wrong and how I could have avoided the situation.  Little help here?  Can any of you seasoned professional moms out there share your wisdom with the rest of us?

Hand Foot & Mouth

Warren got sick last Sunday (when he vomited all over me and the kitchen floor, yuck).  We assumed it was just some sort of stomach bug, but when Thursday rolled around and he was still running a fever, I took him to his doctor.  She said it was hand foot and mouth disease.  Warren does in fact have sores all over his lips, tongue, gums & throat, but nothing on his hands or feet.  It's not pretty and it's painful; he hasn't been able to eat.  Mike started feeling pretty crappy on Friday, so he went to the doctor on Saturday who confirmed that Mike also has hand foot and mouth disease.  I am still symptom free, but seriously considered checking into a hotel to escape from the Burkholder house of illness.  Both my guys stayed home today... Warren seems to be on the mend now, hopefully he's taking care of Mike.

A haircut for Warren

Warren got a fun new haircut for summer over the weekend.  We took him to Monkey Dooz salon for kids in Eagle (they did a great job).  He looks totally adorable and I can hardly stand it!

Before: sitting in the super cool H2 haircuttin' chair

After: playing on Mr. Inch Worm

Warren's Tear Duct Surgery

Warren came through his tear duct surgery like a little champ.  It was kind of a rough day though.... even for us adults.  His surgery time was 12:50 PM, and we were instructed to check-in at 11:15 AM.  Warren ate his last meal just before 7:00 AM and some apple juice at about 8:30 AM.  Then he was cut off.  Nothing more to eat or drink prior to anesthesia.  The timing worked out well (or so I thought).  He got to eat breakfast at his usual time and we would be in pre-op at lunch time, so good to go right?  Wrong!  The doctor, was more than 2 hours behind schedule.  We sat in the lobby waiting and waiting and waiting for 2 hours.  Try to keep a hungry 18 month old occupied and content in a hospital waiting room for 2 hours... I dare you!  When they finally took us back for pre-op stuff it was after 2:00 PM.  When they wheeled Warren off to the OR, it was after 3:00 PM.  It was a long, boring day.

Warren's entire surgery only lasted 20 minutes... very anti-climatic after such a long wait.  Everything went perfect.  He was pretty funny and groggy trying to wake up from anesthesia.  And he threw-up when we got home (thank you baby for not doing it in the car), but he was fine.  He was pretty hungry when he finally came to and ate lots of banana for dinner.  Warren woke up very chipper this morning and you would never know anything ever happened.

After the hospital experience yesterday I am very thankful for such a healthy child.  I really feel for the families out there with sick kids that have to spend time in hospitals; God bless you!

A blocked tear duct... still

Some of you may know, Warren's left tear duct has been blocked since birth.  His left eye gets goopy and crusty and sometimes his eyelid gets swollen and his cheek gets chapped.  We took him to a pediatric opthamologist in September, and she probed his duct open (not a pleasant experience) in the office.  90% of the time a simple probe solves the problem.  Warren however is part of the 10% that require further treatment.  Since the probing failed, Warren needs to go in for a little out patient surgery.  The opthamologist will place a stent in his left tear duct to open it up.  The stent will remain in place (hopefully W won't pull it out!) for 3 months before it is removed.  Surgery is scheduled for April 2nd.  Wish us luck!  I can't say I feel great about Warren being under anesthesia.

A Boy & His Vacuum

Warren really likes my vacuum cleaner, so I've been looking for a toy vacuum for him for awhile.  During a recent stop at a local thrift store, I found one.  This might be the best $2.99 I've ever spent.  He was very excited!

Birthday Boy

Since two sets of Grandparents were in town at the same time, we had an early birthday party for Warren on 9/24.  Two weeks later, on 10/10, Grandpa Matt & Sally came for a visit so we had another birthday party for Warren.  By the time Warren's actual birthday came around on 10/13, we were so partied-out that we just ate cupcakes!

Chair

Warren's Grandpa Bill brought him a very special chair.  It was originally made by Warren's Great Grandpa, Walter, and has been passed down throughout the years.  It once belonged to Bill, then Mike, and now Warren.

How to cut baby's hair yourself

Since babies don't tend to sit still for a haircut, it makes it very difficult to get an even cut.  My hairdresser told me how to cut Warren's hair the easy way:

Make little pony tails around his head and snip off the tip of the tail

This will create layers for you

That's it.  Done.  Worked like a charm!

Good Eats

My favorite new hobby?  Making baby food.  So simple and a great cost savings.  Plus, I know exactly what is in Warren's food... no weird additives.  Tonight W had squash-sweet potato-chicken for dinner.  Yummy!

W vs. the Bouncy Chair

Warren seems to really enjoy his bouncy chair for all purposes other than its intended.  He has used and abused it this past week!

Teeth

Warren has four new teeth, for a grand total of eight!  His new grin sure is cute.
